The Power of Unity and Vision
Imagine a state where former governors unite, supporting the incumbent, and all working towards a common goal. That's the magic of Ekiti under Governor Oyebanji's leadership. On December 10th, the state witnessed the birth of a world-class airport, but more importantly, it celebrated the power of unity and vision. Former governors, three of them on the inaugural flight, showed that when leaders come together, progress is inevitable. This unity has brought peace and prosperity to Ekiti, and it's a testament to Governor Oyebanji's inclusive politics.
Empowering the Youth and Redefining Governance
Barely a week after the airport celebration, another remarkable event took place. Governor Oyebanji presented a staggering one billion naira cheque to 4,567 young farmers, their profit for the 2025 harvest. This initiative, 'Bring Back the Youth in Agriculture', has seen enrollment skyrocket from 1,000 to 5,000 in just a year. The government's strategic support, including free land clearing, seedlings, and market linkages, has made farming profitable. For these young farmers and their families, Christmas came early, thanks to a leader who understands the value of effective governance.
A Leader Who Inspires and Delivers
Governor Oyebanji's leadership is characterized by a deep commitment to service, truth, and loyalty. He believes in empowering his people, not just wielding power. His six-pillar development agenda focuses on shared prosperity, ensuring that every Ekiti citizen benefits. From education to healthcare, infrastructure to economic opportunities, Governor Oyebanji is leaving no stone unturned. He asks, "How can brilliant people be poor?" and his development agenda provides the answer. With investments in human capital, over 200 secondary schools and 900 primary schools have been renovated, and teachers are better motivated. The Governor is also preparing youths for the digital revolution, training them in advanced digital skills. In healthcare, nine general hospitals and over 105 primary health centers have been renovated and equipped, ensuring accessible and quality care for all.
Infrastructure and Political Journey
BAO's impact is also felt in infrastructure. He has commissioned 10 major road projects in the last two months, in addition to the 25 already delivered. His interventions in power infrastructure have reconnected communities to the national grid. The state is also constructing transmission stations and powering institutions and businesses through its Independent Power Project.
Governor Oyebanji's political journey is an inspiring one. It began three years ago when he entered the Oke Ayoba Government House, but some believe it started decades earlier when he joined the struggle for Ekiti State's creation in the 1990s. He served as secretary to the State Creation Committee, understanding the vision of the state's founding fathers. His public service career began as a Special Assistant to Governor Niyi Adebayo, and he rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities. During former Governor Kayode Fayemi's tenure, BAO held key positions, and he eventually became Secretary to the State Government before resigning to contest and win the governorship election in 2022.
A Darling of the People
BAO's simplicity and connection with the grassroots make him beloved. He attends ward meetings, interacts freely with party members, and even leads youth hikes. He regularly engages stakeholders, receiving feedback quarterly. His support is immense, with over 350 groups and associations declaring their backing, along with all former governors, national and state assembly members, and traditional institutions.
Impactful Governance and Development Indices
Since taking office, Governor Oyebanji has proven that governance can be calm yet impactful, inclusive yet decisive. Ekiti State has topped development indices, ranking first in BudgIT's State Fiscal Transparency League for multiple quarters, the PSLI Subnational Audit Efficacy Index in 2023, and the Annual Growth Rate of IGR in 2023. Under his leadership, Ekiti established adapted classrooms for children with disabilities, reduced infant mortality by 57%, and was ranked as the state with the second-lowest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
