Oscar Leung, a renowned Hong Kong actor, embarked on a unique journey during his recent visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His mission was to promote his latest Chinese New Year film, 'Mama Not Again', which was partially filmed in the vibrant city. During his stay, Leung decided to interact with locals in a shopping mall, engaging in a playful quiz about family trees. He offered a generous reward of RM10 for each correct answer.
However, the experience took an unexpected turn when some locals failed to recognize him. In a lighthearted Instagram Reel, Leung approached a young woman and asked if she knew who he was. She amusingly replied, 'I don't know.' Another young woman, while recognizing him, couldn't recall his name. Undeterred, Leung humorously suggested that they would get to know him better once they watch 'Mama Not Again'.
The actor's encounter with the locals sparked online reactions, with many netizens finding the situation amusing. Some, however, expressed surprise, highlighting the changing dynamics of media consumption, especially among the younger generation. One commenter noted, 'The younger generation barely watches Hong Kong dramas.' Another added, 'If it were me, I would never let you down.'
Leung's acting career began in 1999, and he has since become a household name in Hong Kong television, known for his roles in TVB dramas such as 'L'Escargot', 'House Of Harmony And Vengeance', and 'Tiger Cubs'. His exceptional performances have earned him prestigious awards, including the TVB Anniversary Award for Most Improved Male Artiste and the Best Supporting Actor laurel at the TVB Anniversary Awards for his role in 'OMG, Your Honour'.
Leung's personal life is equally fascinating. He married his long-time partner, Tina Lok, in 2014, and they are proud parents to a daughter and a son, aged eight and five, respectively.
