IKEA's Global Talent Search: Uniting Co-Workers Through Food and Creativity
IKEA is not just about furniture anymore! The iconic brand has cooked up something special, transforming the way we perceive this Swedish giant. IKEA Talents, a global initiative, has ignited a culinary revolution within the company, fostering a deep sense of community and creativity among its co-workers. This initiative, launched in 2024 with a music challenge, has now evolved into a culinary adventure.
In this year's edition, IKEA Talents invited co-workers to showcase their cooking skills and share their favorite dishes. Food, an integral part of the IKEA experience, has the power to unite people and create lasting memories. Co-workers were encouraged to present their culinary creations, judged on creativity, presentation, sustainability, and affordability.
But here's where it gets exciting: Lorena Lourido Gomez, Global Food Manager at IKEA Retail (Ingka Group), explains, "IKEA food is a unique connector, bringing people together with joy and flavor." This contest highlights the fun and creativity already present in IKEA stores and among its employees. And this is the part most people miss—it's not just about the food; it's about celebrating the culture and values that make IKEA special.
Co-workers from nearly 50 countries participated, submitting a 1-minute cooking video, a recipe, and a photo. The diversity and creativity were astounding, with almost 11,000 votes cast. Ulrika Biesèrt, Chief People & Culture Officer at Ingka Group, shares, "IKEA Talents is a testament to our co-workers' creativity and unity. It's a massive internal contest, made possible by their passion." This initiative strengthens IKEA's culture and creates moments of joy and pride.
Now, meet the finalists from Malaysia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and Poland, who will travel to Älmhult, Sweden, for the ultimate cook-off. They will engage with IKEA Food experts and compete before a professional jury. The winner will be revealed soon after the final round.
Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, plays a pivotal role in IKEA's success, representing 87% of IKEA retail sales. As a strategic partner, they innovate and define IKEA's future strategies. This contest is a brilliant example of Ingka Group's commitment to fostering a global community within the IKEA family.
