A shocking incident at the Santos Tour Down Under has left Team UAE reeling, with yet another rider, Jay Vine, sustaining a wrist injury. This latest setback adds to a growing list of injuries that have plagued the team's season-opening victory.

In a bizarre turn of events, two kangaroos caused chaos during the final stage of the Aussie race, resulting in multiple injuries. Vine, who was among those affected, broke his wrist in the crash. Team UAE, known as the super team, is now facing a challenging start to their 2026 campaign, aiming for an impressive 100 wins.
The team's official statement confirmed Vine's injury, stating that he underwent successful surgery and will require post-operative recovery and rehabilitation. This means Vine joins Jhonatan Narváez, Vegard Stake Laengen, and Mikkel Bjerg on the sidelines, leaving Tadej Pogačar's squad depleted just one week into the WorldTour racing season.

The extent of Narváez's injuries and his availability for Pogačar's early-season classics blitz, starting March 7 at Strade Bianche, remain uncertain.

Bjerg, Huising, and two other riders had to abandon the race immediately due to their injuries. One of the kangaroos involved was also reported to be injured.
In an interview with ABC Australia, Vine highlighted the dangers of kangaroos, stating, "Everyone asks me what's the most dangerous thing in Australia. I always tell them it's kangaroos." He continued, "They wait and hide in the bushes, and when you can't stop, they jump out in front of you. Today proved my point."
