Nebraska's coaching staff is back in full force, and they're making some exciting moves in the transfer portal!
The Big Red's Defensive Line Makeover
Nebraska has been busy, adding 15 talented players from the transfer portal and bringing in a defender from junior college. With nearly every position group on the roster now boasting new talent, the Huskers are looking to strengthen their starting lineup.
But here's where it gets controversial... as the transfer window nears its end, the coaching staff is still eyeing 1-2 more players to fill key positions.
Their top target? None other than veteran defensive lineman Owen Stoudmire, a former Boston College Eagle.
Stoudmire, listed at 6'1" and 292 lbs, is an Ohio native with a solid collegiate career under his belt. He's played in 35 games, starting in 5, and has shown tremendous growth over the years. From redshirting in 2021 to earning a starting role in 2024, Stoudmire's journey has been an inspiring one.
And this is the part most people miss... Stoudmire's 2024 season was a breakout year, with 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. He was on track for another impressive season in 2025, but injuries forced him to use his medical redshirt.
Now, with a fresh start and a new defensive line coach, Corey Brown, Nebraska is in a prime position to secure Stoudmire's commitment.
But wait, there's more! Nebraska has already added three other defensive linemen since the new year. Anthony Jones, formerly of UCLA, is expected to shine as a defensive edge. Roy Manning, the coach for edge defenders, gained Jones' commitment early on.
Additionally, the Huskers secured a commitment from JUCO All-American Anthony Burburija, who brings impressive stats from his time at Iowa Western. And just recently, they added former four-star prospect Jahsear Whittington, who offers a high-level upside.
With these additions, Nebraska is well on its way to retooling the lines of scrimmage before the 2026 season.
Stoudmire's potential addition would be the perfect finishing touch, bringing both size and experience to a young defensive line.
So, will Stoudmire choose Nebraska? The decision is likely to be made soon, as the academic calendar and enrollment deadlines approach.
