The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to make a grand comeback in 2026, with its 11th edition scheduled from March 26 to May 3, as revealed by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during a New York roadshow. The event also unveiled plans for an auction of two new franchises on January 8, marking a significant step towards the league's potential expansion from six to eight teams. This expansion, however, is still in the consideration phase, with formal ratification pending.
The roadshow, part of a broader overseas promotional campaign, aimed to attract commercial interest and raise the league's profile among international audiences. It featured a display of the PSL trophy in Times Square, drawing members of Pakistan's cricketing diaspora for photos and interactions with players and officials. The event also included notable figures like Shan Masood, Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, and singer Ali Zafar, who has previously collaborated with the PSL.
The PCB's efforts to enhance the league's commercial value and visibility extend beyond traditional markets, following a similar promotional stop at Lord's Cricket Ground in London earlier in the year. The PSL, launched in 2016, has grown into Pakistan's premier T20 competition, initially staged entirely overseas before transitioning to home venues. Despite attracting international players and broadcasters, the league has faced scheduling challenges due to Pakistan's packed international calendar and competition from other T20 leagues.
While the PCB has yet to release detailed information about venues, player drafts, or confirmation of new teams for the 2026 season, the league's expansion plans and promotional activities signal a promising future. The auction for new franchises and the potential increase in team count from six to eight are significant milestones in the PSL's journey to become a global cricket phenomenon.
